If any of your formative years took place in Canada during the 1990s (or if you just happened to be around people who were super partial to Lucy Maud Montgomery), you’re probably already a little in love with Sarah Polley.
The director, actress and writer got her start on the beloved TV show Road to Avonlea, and has gone on to direct the Academy Award-nominated Away From Her, star in a ton of sci-fi films, and even make a mind-blowing documentary about finding her biological father. She’s rad as heck, basically, and has a lot of experience writing and performing as women whose flaws are just part of their strength, which makes her a great fit to write Sony’s upcoming Little Women adaptation.
According to The AV Club, Polley will be scripting the film as part of an all-female creative team including producers Denise Di Novi, Robin Swicord, and Amy Pascal. No director is attached yet, which makes me hopeful that Polley herself (please God just don’t let it be a man) will helm the project.
Considering the creative team Sony’s Little Women has lined up so far (and rumors that the film will be a faithful period adaptation, unlike ABC’s upcoming modern reboot), I’m pretty excited. What do you think, friends?
