Two announcements in one: 1 – I’m publishing a book with Touchstone, a Simon and Schuster imprint 2 – That book is being made into a movie

If anyone deserves a biopic, it’s Zoë Quinn, whose accomplishments in gaming are matched only by her strength and perserverence as she battles asshats on the internet. Well today, she announced that she has a book coming out at the end of next year and has scored a film deal based on it!
The book, Crash Override: How To Save The Internet From Itself, is a memoir and set to come out in September of 2016 from Touchstone (an imprint of Simon & Schuster). Amy Pascal’s Pascal Pictures won the bidding war for rights to the book, and Scarlett Johannson is circling the project, apparently very keen to play Zoe.
According to Deadline Hollywood:
The movie deal was based on a proposal titled Control Alt Delete, and tells the story of how Quinn, creator of such hip interactive games as Depression Quest, was targeted by a digital mob bent on upending her life when a blog post by her ex-boyfriend went viral. It sparked the widely-discussed Gamergate controversy and took a surprising turn when instead of running, she decided to fight back. It is a very inside look at gaming and nerd culture and what happens when one gets caught in the gears of that machine.
And there are two awesome female screenwriters – Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum – set to do the adaptation! Pascal Pictures will finance and Pascal will produce with Rachel O’Connor, who got the book proposal early and quickly put together the package with Angelo and Blum, who met when they were both journalists at The Wall Street Journal. Since Pascal Pascal pictures is based at Sony, they’ll likely get first crack at distribution.
Will you be checking out Crash Override when it comes out next year? And are you excited for Zoe Quinn’s story to come to the big screen? I know I am!
